train providence pt. 2

wow... now i'm starting to write this ten years after the fact. well, maybe not ten years... maybe a week, but still it seems like forever since i was at lupo's with my train peeps.

so i'm standing with mitchy and his friends... the ones i couldn't care for. and of course the girl was named kristin. (i'm spelling it with an "i" cause i spell mine with an "e" and well, since i don't like her, i don't want to share the "e" with her... crazy? maybe) so i called bonniy one last time to just to see if i knew where she was standing and if i could find her. but voice mail picked up so i left a message saying i really wish i was with her and blah blah blah. i get so sentimental. hee hee.

promptly at 830 pat mcgee band gets on stage. it may have even been earlier than 830. regardless, the place was packed. of course, i couldn't tell, but since mitchy is 6'5" he can see over everyone's heads. pretty cool trait to have, but chics behind him were pissed since he is so tall. oh well. pmb was pretty good. i called them "jam bandy-ish with a twist of folk" and after their set kristin was like "they weren't folky at all, i don't know what you were talking about." granted she said that to mitchy, but i was standing right there. ugh, she got under my skin. i guess pmb did a pretty good set. the crowd seemed to love them. they even did a cover of "we don't need no education" by pink floyd. it was pretty good. and of course they ended on "rebecca". who woulda thought.

and then... train. yay. it was different cause it was the first time that i was on the right side of the stage. i'm generally on the left side in front of rob and charlie. but this was good. cause i so dig jimmy. for some reason he just seems like the sweetest guy in the world. and i actually wrote down the set list: respect, it's about you, meet virginia, if you leave, mississippi, ramble on, i wish you would, she's on fire, i am, hopeless, getaway, drops of jupiter, heavy, eggplant, drum duel with pat and scott (i think this is my fave part of the set, but i could be wrong), free ~~~ blind, sweet rain ~~~ something more, i want you to want me. i think that this was my favorite train concert ever. even though i was standing behind a big smelly guy who kept moving his head in my line of vision. ugh, he annoyed me. there were video cameras all around the place... i wondered the whole show why they were there. they definitely played it out this time. they just rocked lupo's inside and out. but i MUST point out the two downpoints of the show... during 'mississippi' (which is a nice slow, very touching ballad) pat says "i wish i was right here in providence rhode island, ya'll". which... i didn't really like.... but it was pat who ruined the song with that comment, so i wasn't too grr about it. if it was some random person screaming it out loud i think i'd be very grrrrrrrrr. and the second thing... there's a part during 'free' where they stop playing and the lights go out, but the crowd keeps singing the chorus. however, once the lights went out, the crowd was cheering thinking the song was over... so instead of ending it like that, they finished it themselves. it was rather depressing, but oh well. i was so excited to hear 'getaway' live. i've been hoping that they'd play it at one of the show's that i went to... and they finally did. it was nice, before their first encore, it was just pat on stage and he said something like... "people post on message boards saying to say happy birthday to people, but we never get time to get around to it, so don't bother asking. but there's a girl at this show that has been to 100 shows (bonniy) so we're gonna let her pick the two songs she wants to hear for an encore." and she picked blind and sweet rain. i was so happy about the choice for sweet rain. both of those were just incredible to hear live. i don't think i've ever heard sweet rain live, but it just surpassed all expectations. i thought they did a great job with both songs considering they didn't really have time to tune everything up, ya know? so... good job guys. 'i want you to want me' was a pretty good ending. although i like when they end on their song, i thought that this song left the crowd on a good note.

after the show was good too. i FINALLY saw christine, and bonniy, and laura. colleen found us around too. i was sad that i never met up with kim or keith. esp. kim only cause this is like the 3rd show we tried to meet up at and failed. ugh... we stink. so i said goodbye to mitchy. i miss seeing him. colleen left shortly after, too. and i hung out with bonniy and the gang. we were being all obnoxious until the guys came out. the cameras were there beause they're making a dvd. (why? i really don't know) so christine had a brilliant idea... if we start swearing, there's no way that the cameras will come near us. so we start dropping f bombs like it's our job. like, that's all we were saying. it just ended up being majorly silly. all of us. except for laura. and i'm like... say it laura say it... and finally she dropped one. and i was like... "say it like you mean it" and bonniy was all "come on, man, with a little more emphasis". it was rather funny. i suppose you had to be there. we were acting all dumb. bonniy and i were even square dancing. but it was fun and enjoyable to hang and be goofy with people i adore to pieces. i actually talked to charlie and scott this time. scott has this really cool tattoo near his thumb and forefinger. charlie was pretty cool too. he bought a 3 dollar shirt somewhere on thames street. rock on, bargains. laura went home cause she had a five hour drive. yikes. there was some chic in a low cut hot pink shirt trying to feel up all the guys. it was funny and gross in the same aspect. oh well. so we blah blah blah.... and go outside to wait for a cab, when who do we see but scary dunkin donut shirt guy. ugh, i swear he was stalking me or something. the cab is taking forever, so i call another one. that one finally gets there. bonniy gives christine 20 bucks for a cab ride back (christine hung out with one of the camera guys... i guess she wanted something to happen, but nothing did). my car is a block away, but since scary dunkin donut shirt guy is around, i decide to cab it for a block with bonniy and then get out to my car. yes, i'm that paranoid. i gave bonniy a hug and nice words... and then off i went... home.

oh, i'm gonna miss the train peeps...
