train hartford

geez... this seemed like forever ago... but i was just last night at about this time that the hartford show was becoming alive.

after circling all of woonsocket... i finally found colleen's street... but had no idea where 140 was because all the houses that i saw were 200something. but i saw her drive past me... and then followed her to her house at the end of the street. so we got our things together... went to the gas station and for coffee.

and off we go.... onto route 6. which we almost missed and almost crashed into this car... in which the driver was screaming out the window at us. great way to start things off. but we found our way. route 6 really isn't a fun road to take from providence to hartford. just to let you know. too many lights and stops and stuff. but we finally got on 384 and proceeded... until the directions that colleen printed out said to get off of an exit and then get back on 384. don't ask me... it's bizarre. then 84 then downtown hartford. we got a little lost... but not too bad. probably because i wasn't driving.

so it's 745 by the time we get to webster theatre. so i'm thinking that we are missing five for fighting. but we go in... and everyone is still mulling around waiting for the show to start. what's interesting about this place (or maybe i'm a loser cause i've never seen a venue like this) is that the bar is in the back... and no drinks can be taken down to the floor. so it kinda sucks if you want to have a beer or two... cause you're far away from the stage. but i didn't drink anything, except for water...so things were good.

colleen and i go to the left of the stage to find the gang. it's so great that they always pick the same spot to go to... that way you can usually find them. and we did. bonniy and christine were there talking to jason from new jersey whom i met at the lupo's show last year, but only briefly so it's like we never met. i guess christine and bonniy made up considering she was there last night. so we're gabbing away with them... about random stuff. i asked bonniy if she ever found andre... and she didn't. so we're like, out of luck and stuff. hmmm...

it's 8 oclock.. and still no show. i asked bonniy where laura from new jersey was... and she was standing beside her with her friend michelle. so i went to michelle and was like "are you the michelle that i sold my tickets to? michelle manning?" and she's like "oh my God, kristen... how are you?" it was just great. i was hoping i'd meet up with her. of course i like meeting any train fans... but ones i sell tickets to are like, double the pleasure.

okay... 830 still no music. no train, no five for fighting, nothing. and for some odd reason... i decided to belt into "paradise city" by guns and roses. and shortly our gang of 7 people were singing it with me. some into it, some not into it... but we sang it. and we got a couple of the what-the-hell-are-you-doing-that-for stares. but ya know what? who the hell cares. it was fun.

845 the little announcer guy comes on the p.a. system and says that fff is going on at 9. good thing, huh? they were suppose to go on at 730... so an hour and a half isn't too bad, right? ha ha... we were getting more and more packed in. some cranky peole were all around us trying to shove in front of us. and bonniy told everyone around her "sorry if i push you, i mean to push her" pointint to this blond chic that came out of no where to get up front. i love bonniy, she can be such a bitch.

five for fighting came out at 9 on the dot pretty much. and they played like rockstars. i think this guy in the crowd helped. he was like jumping up and down to every song. even ones that didn't really ask for it... like slow songs. so during "easy tonight" the lead singer started jumping up and down like crazy and the guy in the crowd was going nuts jumping up and down. it was funny. everyone laughed. ha ha ha ha ha..... i would have to say that five for fighting put on a better show in hartford than in boston.

between fff and train... still cranky old people started to push there way in... and i was standing sideways talking to the gang... and i realized, i can barely even turn the right way cause i don't have any room. but i wiggled my bum bum and turned around. everyone was doing their own thing. some other girl named tracy came over and was talking to bonniy and jason. and we're all whispering "is she on the list, is she on the list?" and then it started getting lounder and someone was like... are you on the list? she's like... yeah, i am. but i don't know why she said that, cause she didn't have a clue what the list was. oh well. she seemed nice. i didn't really talk to her.. but she was getting along with bonniy and jason. laura and michelle were singing some bug in a straw song. they were really getting into it too. don't ask. christine was fighting with the lady behind her cause i guess she was pushing christine and christine didn't really appreciate it. she told the lady that this was her first train show and the lady's like "you're from oregon, how can this be your first show?" but i guess the lady was pissed cause when she took her "spot" christine was getting water for people.. and when she came back, the lady was pissed cause christine's tall and the lady was short. but not much shorter than me... so whatever.

train gets on at about 1010. and one word... WOW. they musta got really good sleep or something, cause they were just into it. much more than the boston show. don't get me wrong, i loved the boston show... but hartford was just killer. it was just all there. the crowd was into it. reponsive. the guy jumping during fff was jumping for train too and holding up paper plates that said something like "play rat for train fans" or something. but they never did. pat was funny... after "respect" and "it's about you" he said "we're doing something new tonight... we're gonna let you scream out songs you want to hear. so scream out what you want to hear..." and people were screaming out random songs. and then he's like "but we're gonna play what we want to play, but i think this is what i heard too" and they went into meet virginia. this show was just great. let's see they played meet virginia, i am, if you leave, free, eggplant, idaho, and heavy from their self titled; she's on fire, i wish you would, drops of jupiter, it's about you, hopeless, respect, something more, whipping boy, mississippi. they also covered zepplin's "ramble on" (of course) and the who's "my generation". this concert just rocked. the crowd was incredibly into it, the band was into it.. you could tell. there were all smiling. during "it's about you" somebody threw up a captain crunch box signed by train. and pat's like "you can tell who smokes pot at this show". speaking of smoking pot... i got a couple whiffs of it at this show. someone really close by musta been smoking up. during "she's on fire" pat took a sign from the audience that said "rob's on fire" hee hee... rob seemed so shy about it. it was cute. pat held it above his head and everyone was cheering. it was fun. :) the girl in front of me finally took her hair down... it was bopping in my face all night. i didn't want to say anything though... cause she was enjoying the show... so... let her be, ya know? i felt a connection to "mississippi" last night. i thought it was well played out... and it really touched me for some reason. every song was just played with such love. like as though each song meant everything to them. it was just great. i can't even tell you. the crowd was so responsive too. much more responsive than the boston crowd. before the encore, michelle was putting on her lip gloss. it smelled like blueberry muffin from strawberry shortcake and i loved it... so she put some on me. bonniy looked over at us and was like "what are you guys doing?: which made me laugh and i almost bit down on the little applicator swab thingy. so they came back for a three song encore. they ended with the who's "my generation". they were suppose to do a second encore with "let it roll" but for some reason that didn't happen. jason got one of the set lists at the end of the show... so that's how we know.

we got outside after the show... and lost jason for a bit. but found out that he was just trying to get a shirt. the only shirt he liked ran out of XL so he didn't get any. we chatted and acted goofy and stuff. but colleen and i had to leave cause she had to be at work the next day. so we hugged everyone good bye. it's so sad to say goodbye esp. when you know you're not going to see them for a while. i love the train listees. they rock.

on our way home... we took 84 to mass pike to 146. getting onto 146. colleen accidently took the wrong turn going down the off ramp to oncoming traffic. i'm like... colleen... turn around, we don't want to be here... you're going down the opposite way on an off ramp. so luckily we could turn around and pull a u'ey. (how the hell do you spell that?) but we got back. gave hugs and i came home.

i was going to stay, but decided to go home cause i was awake enough, plus i love my bed, plus colleen was leaving at 7am and i didn't want to get up that early to go home. i pull into my complex at about 245 and decide to call mitchy cause i didn't feel like typing out an email to him to say how great the show was. so i called... and i left a message. it was probably out of control. i needed to tell him that they played whipping boy cause that's his fave off of drops. oh. i miss my mitchy. have i told you that i love that kid? hmm... well i do.

hopped into bed... and did some things during this gorgeous day and now i'm here. and it took over an hour to type out this post. but i chatted with people who are going to the show tonight and other shows. i hope everyone has a great time at these shows.

i need to take a nap before i explode.

train love...
